TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The LA Galaxy have signed defender Julian Araujo after acquiring the top waiver spot from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for $50,000 Targeted Allocation Money in 2022, the clubs announced Friday.
Araujo, 17, joined the Galaxy Academy in 2018 and made two appearances with LA Galaxy II in USL play. He's represented the US youth national team at various levels, including most recently with the U-20 side.
“Julian is one of the best young defenders in Southern California and we’re thrilled that he’s chosen to begin his professional career with the LA Galaxy,” said Galaxy GM Dennis te Kloese in a club statement. “When we have Academy players like Julian that are good enough for the first team, we will sign them to the first team. Our club’s structure and mentality will allow a young player like Julian to develop into a top first-team talent. We would also like to thank Santa Barbara Soccer Club and Barca Residency Academy for their role in his development as a person and a player.”
Araujo and the Galaxy kick off their 2019 season on Saturday against the Chicago Fire (8 pm ET | FS1, Fox Deportes, MLS LIVE on DAZN in Canada).
