TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The New York Red Bulls announced the signing of 2019 SuperDraft pick Sean Nealis to an MLS contract on Sunday, one day after the tall center back scored a goal in RBNY's 2-2 preseason draw with the Portland Timbers in Mobile Mini Sun Cup play in Tucson, Arizona.
The Hofstra product was the first selection in the second round of last month's draft in Chicago (25th overall) and is the first of RBNY's seven SuperDraft picks to earn a contract. A native of Massapequa, Nealis becomes the sixth New Yorker on RBNY's 2019 roster; his older brother Jimmy was a 2013 SuperDraft selection of the Houston Dynamo but did not make the squad.
“Sean has come into camp and earned this contract,” said Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas in a club release. “He has grasped the defensive tactics quickly, is athletic, and has many of the qualities we look for in center backs. Sean has a great attitude and we look forward to working with him to help him develop.”
