When Nashville MLS begin play in 2020 it will be at Nissan Stadium, the club's CEO confirmed recently.
The club's new $275 million, 30,500-seater stadium expected to be ready for MLS action in 2021. In the interim, the 69,000-seater Nissan Stadium will do.
"In terms of this city, (Nissan Stadium) ticks all the boxes that we would need for that interim solution: Good stadium, good facilities, good capacity. We're just excited to get going," Nashville CEO Ian Ayre said, via The Tennessean. "There's still some bits and pieces, work in progress, but it's more of an operational discussion than some big negotiation."
Ayre, who noted that Nashville's plan to play there was approved at MLS league meetings four weeks ago, has only positive things to say about Nissan Stadium's primary tenants, the Tennessee Titans.
"They continue to be a great neighbor and a great partner, really," Ayre said. "We're very happy to start over there, start our journey and then, once our own home's ready, we'll move in."
The venue was used in September for a friendly between the US men's national team and Mexico.
Nashville's MLS side have already appointed Ayre CEO, signed Mexican striker Daniel Rios and 2018 USL leading scorer Cameron Lancaster and named Mike Jacobs as GM ahead of their 2020 preparations.
