TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The New York Red Bulls announced on Saturday they have signed midfielder Omir Fernandez to a Homegrown contract.
The 19-year-old Red Bulls academy product embarks on his professional career after spending the last two years playing collegiate soccer at Wake Forest. He is the 21st Homegrown signing in club history.
“We have followed Omir closely and are pleased to add him to the First Team,” said Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas in a team statement. “He is a talented player and also a humble person with high character. He understands our style of play and also attacks with creativity and intelligence.”
Fernandez is a native of the Bronx, and in addition to his time with the RBNY academy and Wake Forest, is a US youth international, having been called up to both the US U-18 and U-20 squads.
The Red Bulls will get their competitive slate underway on Feb. 20 in Concacaf Champions League play, against Dominican club Club Atlético Pantoja.
