TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing
The San Jose Earthquakes added some experience to their goalkeeping corps on Friday, announcing that they have signed experienced Argentine Daniel Vega.
Vega, 34, comes to the Quakes after most recently featuring for the USL's Tampa Bay Rowdies in the last half of 2018, where he made 10 appearances. Prior to his time in Tampa, Vega was on the books with Miami FC, competing in the NASL in both 2016 and 2017 as well as the NPSL for Miami FC 2 in the first half of 2018. During his time in the NASL, he played the entirety of the 2016 and 2017 seasons, winning the league's Golden Glove Award in the latter season.
“Daniel is an experienced goalkeeper that has proven to be very trustworthy for his clubs,” said Earthquakes head coach Matias Almeyda in a team statement. “I’m excited that he’ll be a part of our team.”
Vega began his professional career in 2004 with Argentina's Nueva Chicago, where he played for three years before signing with powerhouse River Plate. Vega remained with River Plate from 2007-13, making 76 appearances. In September 2013, Vega moved to Europe to compete for Anorthosis in Cyprus, where he helped them finish in the top six every season during his three-year stint with the club.
