TRANSFER TRACKER: Report
Despite being at the tender age of 19 years old, Tyler Adams was one of the league's best defensive midfielders in 2018 and the heartbeat of the New York Red Bulls midfield. As you may have heard, he joined RB Leipzig this winter, leaving the Red Bulls with a hole in their squad.
The club aren't just looking in-house for his replacement, though. Head coach Chris Armas said at Wednesday's training session that the club are "close" to adding a midfielder from outside the league.
Venezuelan defensive midfielder Cristian Casseres Jr., who turns 19 in January, is expected to play a big role in the first team as well. He made his MLS debut last season with the Red Bulls, impressing in his lone start.
Armas also pointed to Jean-Christophe Koffi, who the club signed in 2018 after acquiring his rights from D.C. United. The 21-year-old spent three seasons at the University of Virginia.
