Indiana University senior defender and Chicago Fire academy product Andrew Gutman has won the men's 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded to college soccer's best player on Friday at the Missouri Athletic Club’s annual banquet.
Gutman, who began a trial at Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers in December, contributed 11 goals and nine assists from his outside back position in 2018, finishing as the team's top scorer following the Hoosiers' run to the College Cup semifinals.
To put that in perspective, Gutman played a role in 20 IU goals this season. As Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, he was a part of a back line that conceded only 13.
Over his entire career, Gutman had 20 goals and 17 assists, won conference regular season and tournament titles in 2018, and reached the College Cup final in 2017.
