TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
While previously mentioned last month in a stateside report, a key figure for Guillermo Barros Schelotto's Boca Juniors side could join his former manager in MLS soon.
Argentina's TyC Sports reported on Wednesday that Boca captain Pablo Perez has drawn interest from multiple MLS sides and with a new coach in charge, he could be persuaded to leave the Argentine Primera champions.
Perez, 33, is a midfielder who has spent most of his career in South America. Getting his start at hometown club Newell's Old Boys, Perez won a league title in 2013 when Tata Martino managed the outfit, then moved to Spain, signing with Malaga in 2014. But Perez didn't stay long, moving to Argentine powerhouse Boca in 2015, where he's been ever since. He earned his first call-up to the Argentina national team in 2018.
The player was at the center of controversy surrounding the recent Copa Libertadores final against Boca's archrival, River Plate. After the first-leg 2-2 draw between the sides, Perez suffered an eye injury when Boca's bus was attacked on the way to River's stadium, and was sent to the hospital for treatment. The result of the attack meant the second leg was moved to Madrid, and Perez recovered enough to play, but Boca fell 3-1 in the second leg and lost the title.
The TyC Sports report isn't the first to report MLS interest in the midfielder, as The Washington Post's Steven Goff also reported on Twitter last month that several teams were looking at the player.
