The Colorado Rapids have bolstered their defense for 2019, after acquiring Keegan Rosenberry in a trade with the Philadelphia Union, in exchange for $150,000 General Allocation Money and $50,000 in Targeted Allocation Money in 2019, plus $100,000 in GAM in 2020. Furthermore, the Union will receive an additional $100,000 in GAM in 2020 if Rosenberry meets certain performance metrics in 2019.
Rosenberry, 25, has played in 80 MLS regular season games for the Union, plus one MLS Cup Playoffs game, in his career to date, which began in 2016. A fixture at right back his rookie season, the defender fell out of favor in 2017, before having a bounce-back campaign in 2018, playing in 32 regular-season games in Philadelphia's best season in their history.
“In Keegan Rosenberry we are very excited to welcome one of the best young right backs in MLS to Colorado,” said Rapids executive vice president & general manager Padraig Smith in a team statement. “He is a technically gifted and strong defender whose passing from the back will fit perfectly with our style of play.”
