TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Re-signing

Real Salt Lake announced on Tuesday the re-signing of veteran fullback Tony Beltran, bringing the two-time MLS All-Star back for his 12th season with RSL.

An RSL lifer up to this point since the club drafted him in 2008, Beltran has made 245 regular-season appearances (230 starts) for the Utah side, with one goal, 12 assists and a role in two runs to the MLS Cup final, one of which (2009) RSL won.

Beltran, 31, is one of three players remaining on the RSL roster from that ‘09 championship team, along with Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando.  He is one of five players in club history to play 10 seasons with the club, joining Beckerman, Rimando, Javier Morales and Chris Wingert, and is one of seven players in MLS history to play for just one team and start 230 or more career matches.

“I have heard some writers say that the only book that matters is the next one. Now I understand the same holds true in sports. For a long time I didn’t know if there was going to be another game, the next one, or where that game would be,” Beltran said in a club release.

“Next year, RSL and I will continue the journey we started together 11 years ago. The next game will be here, in this city that means so much to me, a place that I’m proud to call home.”
