The Houston Dynamo have re-signed Houston native and defending eMLS Cup champion Guillermo “Memo” Trevino as the club’s official professional esports athlete, the club announced Tuesday.
Trevino, who plays under the gamertag “Kid M3Mito,” took home the inaugural eMLS Cup at the PAX East gaming festival in Boston in April, qualifying him for the FIFA ’18 Global Series Playoffs. He went 19-0-3 overall in the tournament, defeating LyesMTL of the Montreal Impact 6-4 on aggregate in the eMLS Cup Final and outscoring his tournament opponents by 94-47.
“I’m excited to rejoin the Dynamo again this year. It’s an honor to represent my city and my club, and I’m looking forward to competing against the best in MLS and around the world,” Trevino said in a statement. “I know the competition is only going to get tougher as eMLS keeps growing, but I’m ready for the challenge and ready to try and bring another championship back to Houston.”
Trevino also recently qualified to play in the FUT Champions Cup, which will be held in January 2019. Additionally, he will compete in the FUT Champions Licensed Qualifying Event (LQE) next month. Specific dates and locations for those competitions have yet to be announced.
He finished November ranked 10th in the world and second in the Americas on the XBOX platform among all FIFA 18 players. Earlier this year, he qualified for the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series Playoffs; and in the fall of 2017 he placed third in the XBOX division of the Americas Regional Final to qualify for the Ultimate Team Championship Series Finals in Berlin.
