After a stunning finish to the 2018 season, D.C. United are working to keep the core of their squad together ahead of 2019.
Lucho Acosta, who earned a place in 2018 MLS Best XI with 10 goals and 17 assists and has been making cryptic posts on social media of late, is working to get a raise. According to Steven Goff of the Washington Post, D.C. are in negotiations to strike a new deal with the 24-year-old. MLSsoccer.com's Sam Stejskal spoke with D.C. general manager Dave Kasper at the end of November, who said the club intended on opening negotiations with Acosta.
D.C. United are also working to keep Yamil Asad, who had nine goals and eight assists in 30 appearances in his first season with the Black-and-Red while on loan from Argentine club Velez Sarsfield. United are attempting to make a deal with Velez, be it permanently or on loan, though see their chances at "50/50" according to Goff, which corroborates what Stejskal reported at the end of November.
