Johnny Russell’s late equalizer in a 1-1 draw against the LA Galaxy earned Sporting Kansas City a share of the points Saturday night, but it earned the Scotsman all of the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week honors for Week 32.
Russell split a pair of Galaxy players on a run into the box, then cut between two more before unleashing a low left-footed shot that nestled inside the far post in the 83rd minute. His ninth goal of the year racked up 38 percent of the vote, besting Sebastian Blanco’s sensational hit from a tight angle in the Portland Timbers’4-1 win over Real Salt Lake which came in second, garnering 25 percent of the vote.
Ilsinho of the Philadelphia Union (16 percent), RSL's Jefferson Savarino (11 percent) and Santiago Mosquera (10 percent) from FC Dallas rounded out the voting.
