Minnesota United may be leaving TCF Bank Stadium after the season, but Loons fans are sure to send off their first home in MLS in style.
More than 50,000 tickets have been sold and distributed for MNUFC's Oct. 21 home finale against the LA Galaxy, the club announced Wednesday. The game is the Loons' last before departing for the opening of Allianz Field next season.
With the new venue's capacity set at an intimate 19,400, the match against LA represents the last chance to shatter the state record for a stand-alone domestic regular season or playoff match that has stood for more than 40 years. It was way back in 1976 when a crowd of 49,572 fans came to Metropolitan Stadium to watch the Minnesota Kicks beat the San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 and win the NASL Conference Championship.
Minnesota set about its #50ktoMidway attendance goal in a press release published in mid-August. To help celebrate the achievement, the club is featuring throwback pricing on concessions, including $2 hot dogs, $1 popcorn, $.75 small fountain sodas and more.
The Loons have two home games remaining in their second season in MLS, with the Colorado Rapids visiting on Oct. 13 before the Galaxy follow eight days later.
