Report: Atlanta United makes formal offer to extend Tata Martino

Tata Martino - shouting - day game

As uncertainty remains Tata Martino's future, the Atlanta United coach told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Doug Roberson that the club has formally offered him a contract extension.

Martino's current deal ends following this season, though both teams have options to extend the deal. The deadline to act on those mutual options is Oct. 1, Martino told Roberson following his side's 4-3 win in San Jose late Wednesday night.

Martino was questioned about his future after a report from ESPN Deportes' Hernan Pereyra came out Wednesday night stating that the Argentine will not be continuing as coach of Atlanta United, presumably following the season.

Previous reports have linked the former Barcelona, Argentina and Paraguay manager to several international managerial roles, including Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and the US men's national team.

Martino has said previously he expects to decide his future before the end of Atlanta's regular season.
