The accolades keep coming for Atlanta United striker Josef Martinez, whose MLS single-season record 28th goal has earned him AT&T Goal of the Week honors for Week 26.
His composed chip over a sprawling Joe Bendik put Atlanta on top of Orlando City for good in the 74th minute Friday night, lifting the Five Stripes to a 2-1 road win.
In Week 25 voting, Albert Rusnak’s stoppage-time equalizer for Real Salt Lake narrowly supplanted Martinez’s record-tying strike at home against Columbus Crew SC. This time there was no doubt, with the Venezuelan star collecting 80 percent of the vote. A near-post blast from Montreal Impact’s Alejandro Silva finished second (14%), and goals from Kaku (4%), Scott Sutter (1%) and Sebastian Giovinco (1%) rounded out the field.
