Was there any doubt?
Alphonso Davies’ left-footed screamer after juking through three defenders was the overwhelming winner of AT&T Goal of the Week for MLS Week 22.
The 17-year-old spent the game eviscerating the Minnesota United FC defense to the tune of two goals and two assists in a 4-2 victory at BC Place last Saturday. But the recent Bayern Munich signee saved his best for last with a sensational solo effort one minute from full time.
Yordy Reyna laid the ball off to Davies, who took an attacking touch before splitting a pair of Loons to set up a devastating cutback to send Collin Martin the wrong way. He fired under the crossbar with his next touch before setting off on a celebration that was cut short by an open field tackle from behind by Kei Kamara.
Davies’ effort brought home 57 percent of the vote, with Raul Ruidiaz coming up second at 37 percent with his first goal for the Seattle Sounders as the Peruvian international took Cristian Roldan’s cross down with his chest and fired inside the far post off the bounce for the winner against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Here’s how the rest of the pack finished up: Kellyn Acosta at three percent, Michael Barrios at two percent and Bradley Wright-Phillips at one percent.
