TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Negotiations between the Chicago Fire and French-born Moroccan midfielder Amine Bassi have broken off, with the 20-year-old reportedly staying put at AS Nancy-Lorraine in France's Ligue 2.
According to L’Est Republican in France, the two sides were close enough that Bassi was held out of Nancy’s last match on Friday with a four-year deal and a transfer fee of more than $3.5 million on the table. Yet Bassi eventually opted to remain, even as Chicago brass reportedly made a last-ditch effort, offering to pay a round-trip ticket for Bassi to see the club’s operations first-hand.
Bassi came up through ASNL’s youth ranks and made his professional debut in a 3-0 loss to AS Monaco last May. He’s made 16 appearances, scoring four goals. He’s been capped once by the Moroccan U-21 team in a 4-0 friendly loss to Italy last October.
