Stuntin' like his daddy: BWP inspired by Ian Wright's Arsenal celebration

When Bradley Wright-Phillips became the quickest in MLS history to score 100 goals (doing so in 159 matches), his instantly iconic celebration further eternalized the moment.

After the Red Bulls' No. 99 scored goal No. 100 in a 1-0 win Wednesday at D.C. United's Audi Field, Wright-Phillips removed his red game jersey to reveal a white kit underneath with the No. 100 on the back. But that celebration must have seemed familiar within his own living room (and to longtime Arsenal supporters).

It was an ode to his father, Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

Wright celebrated scoring his Arsenal all-time record-breaking goal by lifting his jersey, uncloaking a shirt underneath his jersey that read: “179. Just Did It.” His record has since been broken by his son's former Red Bulls teammate, Thierry Henry.

Long since retired, Wright is now a television pundit, fan and, most of all, a proud father. Once Wright-Phillips hit the century mark of MLS goals on Wednesday night, Wright immediately took to Twitter to publicly congratulate his son.

After Wright-Phillips led the Red Bulls to a 1-0 victory over D.C., he responded to his father’s tweet, admitting the source of his inspiration.

At least Wright-Phillips only needed to wear two jerseys for one game, as his 100th goal came following his 99th goal on Saturday.

A true family affair, Bradley's brother and Ian's son Shaun Wright-Phillips took to Instagram to congratulate Bradley.

If Wright-Phillips scores once more this season, he’ll make more history by becoming the league’s only player to score at least 15 goals in five consecutive seasons.

Would that fit on another jersey?
