New York City FC are again exploring a stadium site in The Bronx after previous negotiations with the city to build there fell apart five years ago, according to a report from The New York Times.
The location of a new stadium would be between Yankee Stadium, where the team currently plays, and Bronx Terminal Market. The multibillion-dollar project would also include a park, hotel and conference center, retail and office space, a school and as many as 3,000 low-or-middle income housing units, The Times reports.
The club has also been linked to other potential sites in the past, including one in Queens at Willets Point, a plot of land near Citi Field, the home of baseball's New York Mets.
A team spokesperson told The Times in a statement also shared with MLSsoccer.com that the team "is actively pursuing a permanent home in NYC and exploring several options, including working with [real estate firm] Maddd Equities in the Bronx. We continue to engage in meaningful dialogue to understand what may be feasible on their site."
New York City are currently in their fourth season as tenants at Yankee Stadium. The club has had a full-time employee devoted to their stadium search since the beginning of 2017, according to club president Jon Patricof.
