New York City FC gave the New York Red Bulls a taste of their own medicine to turn the tide in the NY Derby on Sunday, as Maxi Moralez netted a late game-winner via the exploitation of a costly giveaway from Aaron Long in the final minutes of a hectic clash at Yankee Stadium.
Substitute Jonathan Lewis provided the assist for Moralez's empty-net finish, the product of NYCFC swarming Long deep in his own end in the 85th minute, the most effective example of the home team's decision to prioritize aggressive pressing over their usual fluid buildup play.
The Cityzens turning the tables on the Red Bulls made for a scrappy, imprecise affair marked by myriad turnovers and uncompleted passes, though it paid dividends in terms of the final result. The win marks NYCFC's first victory over RBNY in three tries (two league, one U.S. Open Cup) this season.

Three Things
THE BIG PICTURE
: Some will say they abandoned their core principles to do it, but NYCFC needed a derby win by any means necessary after losing their two previous 2018 meetings with RBNY by a combined score of 8-0. In the process, they might just have made the
Supporters' Shield standings
a three-horse race.
