Alejandro “Kaku” Romero Gamarra has moved into the MLS lead for assists this season with 10 — he's the only player to have reached double figures in assists this season so far.
It took the Red Bulls midfielder just 12 games from the start of the season to reach the 10-assist mark – tied for the sixth-fastest in MLS history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. It's the fastest to the double-digit assist mark since Landon Donovan recorded 10 assists in his first 10 games in 2010.
The Red Bulls have had the MLS assist leader in each of the last two seasons: Sacha Kljestan, now with Orlando City SC. Kljestan became just the second MLS player to collect 20 or more assists in a season, getting 20 in 2016, and he followed that up with 17 in 2017 to become the only MLS player ever to defend his assist title.
