Diego Rubio’s dramatic equalizer in Sporting Kansas City’s wild 3-2 comeback victory over the Houston Dynamo has cruised to victory in the Week 17 AT&T Goal of the Week race.
The Chilean striker’s cool finish capped a slick passing combination right through the heart of the reeling Dynamo defense, setting the stage for his fellow substitute Khiry Shelton to net the game-winner minutes later, completing an impressive rally from 2-0 down at halftime to worthy victors at Children’s Mercy Park.
Rubio’s effort garnered 42 percent of the vote, safely beating the second-place contender, Aaron Long’s corner-kick strike for the New York Red Bulls in their 3-0 thrashing of FC Dallas.
Colorado’s Edgar Castillo came in third with his right-footed blast into the top corner (17%), followed by the knuckling free kick from LAFC captain Laurent Ciman (13%) and the twinkle-toed solo effort from Philadelphia Union playmaker Borek Dockal (9%).
