Orlando City SC fans, players and staff got some welcome news on Wednesday, as Homegrown goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar announced that the previous day he’d finished his final round of chemotherapy treatment for his Localized Ewing Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer.
Stajduhar, 20, released video of him taking part in a bell-ringing ceremony in front of hospital staff, a tradition to mark the end of a six-month process of treatment.
“For me, it’s always been about just getting back on the field and trying to play and do what I love, as much as possible,” Stajduhar told ProSoccerUSA.com. “That’s the only thing that I focus on and that really matters to me, just getting back on the field and playing as much as possible and doing my thing.”
A 2015 HGP signing for the Lions, the former US youth international was diagnosed last November and continued to train and take part in most team activities during his chemotherapy; he’s still seeking his first MLS match appearance.
