The Undefeated, the ESPN-launched website which bills itself as "the premier platform for exploring the intersections of race, sports and culture," has turned its attention to the blossoming relationship between Atlanta and Atlanta United.
Author Clinton Yates, in a piece titled "Atlanta is all about that soccer culture," is effusive in its praise for the soccer culture that Atlanta United has helped bring to Atlanta, and how it in turn is influencing the whole city.
Starting the piece by declaring, "The hip-hop capital of America is on its way to becoming the soccer capital of America as well," Yates explores Atlanta's role in securing the 2026 World Cup bid for the United States-Mexico-Canada coalition, the upcoming MLS All-Star Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium pitting the league's finest against Italian powerhouse (and global brand) Juventus, and the club's burgeoning academy system in a wide-ranging article celebrating how much of a hold the beautiful game is taking over Atlanta.
The article also notes that Atlanta United, which led the league in attendance last year with 48,200 fans per match, is on pace to repeat, besting last year's total at just over 48,400 per match to date.
