Danny Royer struck in the first half and Bradley Wright-Phillips added a second-half goal to lift the New York Red Bulls to a 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday at Red Bull Arena.
Royer put the Red Bulls (8-4-2) in front on 37 minutes, racing in at the back post to tap in a low ball across the face of goal by Florian Valot for his fourth strike of the season.
The Red Bulls doubled their lead just seven minutes after the break when Wright-Phillips put a glancing header past Stefan Frei for his 10th goal of the season. It was the second assist of the game for Ethan Kutler, who whipped in the cross.
Harry Shipp pulled Seattle (3-8-2) to within a goal three minutes from full time, but it was the visitors weren't able to find the equalizer.

- THE BIG PICTURE: In a stretch of five games in 15 days, the Red Bulls are 2-1-1 heading into a U.S. Open Cup showdown at Philadelphia, while Seattle were unable to gain momentum after a home win over D.C. United.
- MOMENT OF THE MATCH: A well-weighed cross by Kutler and a clinically headed finish by Wright-Phillips gave the Red Bulls the cushion they needed against the offensively-challenged Sounders.
- MAN OF THE MATCH: Red Bulls fans may protest, but Alex Muyl worked his socks off and pressured Frei and his defenders throughout. The only thing missing on this night was a deserved goal.
