LAFC played a full half with 10 men, but D.C. United made them pay for it in a 1-1 draw at Banc of California Stadium on Saturday.
LAFC took the lead shortly before the break, as a deflected pass in the box bounced to Diego Rossi, and the Uruguayan slotted the shot in calmly.
But LAFC left the door open minutes later, as Dejan Jakovic received a straight red card for a studs-up tackle on Paul Arriola, reducing the home side to 10 men for the second half.
In the second half, each side had a penalty shout -- a handball by Laurent Ciman in LAFC's box, followed a few minutes later by a handball from Zoltan Stieber in D.C.'s box -- but following Video Review referee Ismael Elfath waved off both spot kicks.
D.C. made their man advantage count in the 84th minute, as Joseph Mora floated a cross to the back post which was headed back across by Arriola, with Darren Mattocks then heading it into the net.
Frederic Brillant had a chance to win the game in second-half stoppage time for D.C., as his header off a corner kick clanged off the post.
