TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
After months of rumor, reports and speculation, Spanish great Fernando Torres could be set to sign with the Chicago Fire, according to a report from FOX Sports MX on Tuesday.
“El Niño” dropped the curtain in style on his time at his boyhood club Atletico Madrid on Sunday, scoring twice in Los Colchoneros’ 2-2 draw with Eibar on the final day of the La Liga season as the club paid rich tribute to one of their greatest-ever products.
Now it seems that the final stages of the striker's move to Chicago can proceed, or so states Mexico-based FOX journalist Ricardo Garcia Ochoa, who cites “very reliable sources” telling him that Torres is very close to completing a summer move to the Fire.
Torres would be unable to officially join Chicago’s roster for match action until the secondary transfer window opens on July 10. The Fire are currently mired in a 1-3-1 stretch, having most recently lost 3-2 to the Houston Dynamo at home on Saturday.
