It’s been a dream start for Diego Rossi and expansion LAFC, and people are certainly noticing.
On Tuesday, Rossi was voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 2 of the 2018 season.
Rossi enjoyed a dazzling performance in LAFC’s second-ever match, bagging two goals and three assists in a 5-1 romp at Real Salt Lake on Saturday. It was only the sixth time in MLS history a player was involved in five goals in a single game for his club.
The 20-year-old Uruguayan scored in the 30th minute to tie the game with a calm right-footed strike, before providing the secondary assist on goals from Latif Blessing and Benny Feilhaber.
He completed his first MLS brace in the 81st minute with a shot from the top of the box after getting behind the defense, and added this third assist with a perfectly placed pass to Carlos Vela on the team’s fifth goal.
After two games, Rossi leads MLS in both goals (three) and assists (three), having factored in to every goal in LAFC history thus far. He’ll look to stay hot when LAFC returns to action March 31 with a crosstown showdown against the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center (3 pm ET; FOX in US).
The Alcatel MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
