TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing
The Philadelphia Union today announced that their search for a playmaking midfielder has concluded with the loan signing of 29-year-old Czech international Borek Dockal to a Designated Player contract.
In a separate transaction, Philadelphia used discretionary Targeted Allocation Money to buy down David Accam's contract and free up a DP roster slot.
After acquiring Accam from the Chicago Fire on the day of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft to play out wide, signing Dockal represents the fruition of Union sporting director Earnie Stewart's desire to add a central playmaker.

“When we set out to identify targets for our number 10 position that would be a good fit within our system and parameters, Borek stood out as a leading candidate from the very beginning,” Stewart said in a statement. “We believe Borek has the quality to make everyone around him better. This deal took time and patience to complete and we are excited to welcome him to Philadelphia. We look forward to integrating him with our group as quickly as possible as we turn our attention to the 2018 opener on March 3.”
Dockal joins Philadelphia from Chinese club Henan Jianye. He had previous stints at Czech giants Sparta Prague and Slavia Prague, and Norwegianee titans Rosenborg as part of his more than 350 professional appearances.
Dockal has scored 79 goals and contributed 93 assists over that pro career, and has experience both in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. He's also made 35 appearances for the Czech Republic, including seven during their 2018 World Cup Qualifying campaign.
