TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
Former US U-20 standout striker Rubio Rubin is nearing closer to a new contract, either in MLS or Liga MX, according to Goal.com's Ives Galarcep.
Toronto FC and LAFC are among the MLS clubs interested, according to Galarcep's report, though Rubio would have to go through the league's Allocation Process. That mechanism determines who has priority to sign senior internationals, youth internationals, and players sold by MLS clubs for more than a $500,000 transfer fee. As of Dec. 10, LAFC – original holders of the No. 1 spot – sat 11th on that list after a trade with FC Dallas, while TFC sat last.
Rubin is out of contract with Norwegian side Staebek and is the only unattached player who is currently part of the US national team's January camp. After a shining performance for the Yanks during the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, he failed to build that into regular appearances or production during any of three club stops in Europe.
