TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Real Salt Lake announced the signing of academy product Corey Baird as the team's 15th Homegrown player all-time on Friday.
Baird, 21, signs his first professional contract after a four-year career at Stanford University, where he helped the Cardinal win three consecutive NCAA championships. The forward scored 16 goals and 28 assists in 77 appearances for Stanford.
"It's a rare thing for a player to win three college championships, so we are proud of Corey for accomplishing that feat and now we are excited to have that pedigree with our first team," RSL general manager Craig Waibel said in a team statement. "He's a winner and he's the type of guy we want in our locker room."
The Escondido, California native is also a US youth international, having played for the U-17s, U-20s and U-23s.
"This is an amazing feeling knowing that I'm signing with a team I played with four or five years ago at the Academy," Baird said. "I'll be playing with a lot of guys I was playing with then so it will be good to get back on the field with them. I'm going to be working my hardest all the time for an opportunity on the field while trying to contribute as many goals and assists as I can."
Real Salt Lake open the 2018 MLS regular season on March 3 at FC Dallas.
