TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Just how close are Atlanta United to adding another young dynamic South American to the mix?
According to a report from Argentine network TyC Sports, Independiente attacking midfielder Ezequiel Barco has asked his team to accept a transfer offer from Atlanta.
In the report, Independiente vice president Hugo Moyano indicated the offer would need to exceed $12 million due to interest from several European clubs and Barco’s recent performance at Copa Sudamericana, in which he scored the decisive penalty to clinch the Argentine club’s first title since 2010.
It was first reported in November that Atlanta put together an offer of $14 million for the promising 18-year-old, before Moyano said he’s “not going anywhere for less than $20 million.”
If the transfer deal works out, Barco would join a South American star core of Josef Martinez, Hector Villalba and Miguel Almiron, as well as recently-acquired American midfielder Darlington Nagbe.
