Following the news earlier in the week that they have secured tax breaks for their soccer-specific stadium, Minnesota United FC on Thursday released an updated construction timeline for their future home in St. Paul.
The club announced that they plan on breaking ground at the site early this summer. The structural steel is set to be finished early in 2018, with the outer structure scheduled to be finished the following fall ahead of a planned opening in time for the start of the 2019 MLS season.
The stadium will seat about 19,600 fans, and will feature a 360-degree canopy that will protect roughly 85 percent of the seats from inclement weather and will trap crowd noise. The stands will be on a steep grade, with the farthest seat just 125 feet away from the sideline at the top of an upper bowl with a rake of 33.4 degrees. The safe-standing supporters’ section will be on an even steeper incline of 34.75 degrees, creating what should be an imposing atmosphere behind a goal.
