Wednesday was a critical night in the lead-up to the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs.
In the Eastern Conference, D.C. United solidified their No. 6 spot by defeating Columbus Crew SC 3-0. They now sit four points ahead of seventh-placed New England Revolution and five points ahead of Orlando City SC. The Montreal Impact were able to end their skid, beating the San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 at Stade Saputo. They improved their odds to make the playoffs by 12 percent with the win, according to ESPN's Soccer Power Index.
The Lions were able to get a point in Toronto, as they drew 0-0 with TFC. Toronto took a one-point lead at the top of the East but failed to get full points in their third-straight home game, making their odds of claiming the Supporters' Shield lower.
In Seattle, the Sounders moved above the red line for the first time this season thanks to their 1-0 win against the Chicago Fire. With the win, they improved their odds to make the playoffs to 73 percent according to the SPI.
