Alejandro Bedoya is in MLS for the first time, joining the Philadelphia Union at the close of the transfer window. And while many fans are familiar with his work on the US national team, you may have missed what's Bedoya's been up to on the other side of the pond for the last decade or so.
As USMNT observers know, the 29-year-old is a midfielder with a versatile skill set, but he was more of a goalscorer for Orebro SK (Sweden), Rangers (Scotland), Helsingborgs (Sweden) and Nantes (France) than for his country. Here are five of his best tallies across the pond:
1. Beating the mighty PSG from range
Paris St-Germain are the current super team of Ligue 1, while Bedoya's Nantes team were very much a group of ambitious underdogs. This goal, from 2014-15, is a moment of magic from a broken play to beat that season's league champs.
2. Making a great first impression for a new team
What's a good way to impress your new club? Score a goal, of course. Bedoya one-upped that in his debut for Swedish side Helsingborg in 2012, throwing down a bicycle kick golazo in his debut.
3. Winning in dramatic fashion
Here's another impressive strike, as Bedoya scores the winner on a scissored half-volley for Orebro in 2011.
4. Tight angle? No problem
This one may be a bit easier technically, but Bedoya's ability to beat the goalkeeper from a very tight angle in this game for Nantes in 2014 is still quite impressive.
5. Two-touch blast
We didn't even get to Bedoya's headed goals, which have been pretty solid in their own right, because this one once again shows off his technical skills. After getting into the box to support the attack, Bedoya gets a pass and touches it twice with his right foot in quick succession, once to settle and again to blast it in the net for Nantes against Caen earlier this year.
