Toronto FC just lost a big chunk of its engine room.
TFC announced on Friday that midfielders Michael Bradley and Will Johnson are expected to miss six weeks of action due to a knee sprain and a tibial plateau fracture, respectively.
Bradley’s injury occurred on US national team duty, during last Saturday’s third-place match vs. Colombia in the Copa America Centenario. He left the 1-0 US loss in the 79th minute, marking the only match of the tournament in which he did not log the full 90 minutes.
Johnson was hurt on his sensational last-gasp goal vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second leg of the Amway Canadian Championship final on Wednesday night. Risking his body in pursuit of a loose ball dropped by Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted, the Canadian international lashed a clutch finish into the roof of the Whitecaps' net to win the 2016 ACC championship for TFC on away goals, as the match ended 2-1 to Vancouver and the series tied 2-2 on aggregate.
Bradley has appeared and started in 12 matches with one assist for Toronto this season. Johnson has appeared in 18 matches, with three goals and two assists between MLS play and the Canadian Championship.
