D.C. United could soon be making a Homegrown signing, according to The Washington Post’s Steve Goff.
Goff reported on Thursday that D.C. are making “a serious push” to sign academy member and US Under-17 national team captain Chris Durkin.
A center back and defensive midfielder, the 16-year-old Durkin currently attends the US U-17 residency program in Bradenton, Florida. Goff reported that D.C. have not yet made him a formal offer, but that United are “keeping close tabs on him.” According to Goff, Durkin is also weighing opportunities in Europe.
D.C. currently have three Homegrown players on their roster: Goalkeeper Bill Hamid, midfielder Collin Martin and defender Jalen Robinson. Past D.C. Homegrown signings include Honduran international and current Anderlecht midfielder Andy Najar, New York City FC defender Ethan White and forward Michael Seaton, who was released by the Portland Timbers in May.
