Kansas City’s rainbow jerseys are coming back.
Sporting Kansas City will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first-ever match next week by honoring their Kansas City Wiz history when they host the Colorado Rapids at Children’s Mercy Park on April 13.
The club will wear rainbow-designed shirts inspired by the uniforms it donned in its inaugural season during the warmups ahead of the match against Colorado. Sporting KC will keep the throwback motif going during the game, as they will feature rainbow numbers on the back of their white alternate kits.
Next week’s match will mark the exact 20th anniversary of Kansas City’s first game, a 3-0 loss against the Rapids at Arrowhead Stadium in 1996.
You can head on over to the Kansas City Star's website to check out images of the warmup shirts and rainbow-numbered alternate uniform, which will be on sale at the stadium but not online.
