The American soccer icon saw the backlash following the USMNT’s disheartening 2-0 loss at Guatemala on Friday night, and took to Twitter on Saturday in the hopes of putting the defeat in perspective.
The US currently sit in third in Group C with four points through three games. They’ll play the first of their remaining three games in the semifinal round of qualifying on Tuesday, when they host Guatemala at Columbus Crew SC’s MAPFRE Stadium (7 pm ET, ESPN2, UniMas, UDN).
A win against Los Chapines would leave the US in good shape to qualify for the Hexagonal entering the final two games of the round in September against Trinidad and Tobago and at St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A draw on Tuesday would make things dicey for the Americans, while a loss… Let’s not think about a loss.
