Yet another high-profile Italian appears to be on a Major League Soccer club’s radar, with AC Milan vice president and CEO Alberto Galliani telling reporters on Monday that he expects an offer for midfielder Antonio Nocerino from an unnamed MLS side.
Nocerino, 30, has been with Milan since 2011 but spent most of the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons on loan to West Ham, Torino and Parma. Nocerino, who has 15 career appearances with the Italian national team, has just three appearances in all competitions for Milan this season.
“Antonio Nocerino? He’s the only player heading out, we’re expecting an offer from MLS to arrive and that could be a solution,” said Galliani.
Galliani noted that MLS’s transfer window doesn’t close until May. The primary transfer window opens on February 18, and runs until May 12.
Nocerino, who previously played for Juventus and Palermo, was linked earlier this month to Orlando City. Nocerino and OCSC captain Kaká briefly played together at Milan in 2013. He'd be the third significant Italian player to join the league in the last 12 months, following 2015 Landon Donovan MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco and New York City FC's Andrea Pirlo.
