Now that he's officially parted ways with Inter Milan, could Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic be on his way to MLS?
The Serie A club announced on Monday that they have agreed to a "mutual termination" of Vidic's contract. The big central defender joined Inter in 2014 after spending nine seasons with Manchester United, where he won five Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy, among other honors. Vidic did not make an appearance for Inter this season.
Vidic had been linked to D.C. United in recent weeks, as the MLS side and Inter share an owner, Erick Thohir. ESPN FC's Jeff Carlisle reported last week that D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said that club was not interested in bringing Vidic aboard, which appears to take them out of the running.
While no concrete links to other MLS teams have emerged of late, speculation continues to mount that he could join the league, and being a free agent would certainly make the 34-year-old more appealing to potential teams.
