You might think of him as an English soccer icon, or the LA Galaxy's most famous player, or perhaps the man who's trying to bring MLS back to South Florida.

Now People magazine has slapped another title on David Beckham: Sexiest Man Alive.

Lauding the retired midfielder as “a global superstar, devoted husband, down-to-earth, dad of four … [and] humble British heartthrob,” the magazine selected him for the 30th edition of its annual honor.

Even though he's garnered countless magazine covers, underwear photo shoots and other product endorsements over his long career in the global spotlight, Becks played it humble this time.

“It's a huge honor,” said the 40-year-old, “and I'm very pleased to accept."

“I never feel that I'm an attractive, sexy person," he added. “I mean, I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don't ever think of myself that way.”

Beckham, who is presently leading efforts to found an MLS expansion club in Miami, also revealed that his oldest son Brooklyn, 16, seems to think it's his time for such honors, not his father's.

“Brooklyn was the one who was like, 'Are you sure it's not me that's meant to be there today?'” joked Beckham.

Now we're wondering if other MLS sex symbols deserve consideration for an honor handed out to the likes of George  Clooney, Channing Tatum and Tom Cruise over the years. Enter your nominations in the poll below!
