US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called up five players for Tuesday's friendly against 2014 FIFA World Cup quarterfinalists Costa Rica at Red Bull Arena (6:30 pm ET; ESPN, UniMas, UDN), U.S. Soccer announced Sunday.
Goalkeeper Bill Hamid (D.C. United), midfielders Mix Diskerud (New York City FC), Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution) and Brek Shea (Orlando City SC) and forward Andrew Wooten (Sandhausen), will link up with the squad upon the its arrival in Harrison, N.J., on Sunday.
Following the US’ 3-2 loss to Mexico in Saturday’s CONCACAF Cup match, Klinsmann also released eight players from camp, all from MLS teams: Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando, Houston Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley, Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler, Real Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman, Toronto FC midfielder Michael Bradley, Sporting Kansas City’s Graham Zusi, Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey and San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski.
With the changes, the US roster stands at 21 players heading into their final match before the start of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
