With wins in both of their games last week, including a shutout over Sporting Kansas City, the Houston Dynamo had MLS Fantasy owners shouting “Let’s go, Dynamo!”
Seven Dynamo players made the Dream Team this past week, with every position represented. Will Bruin and Brad Davis led the way with 16 points. Giles Barnes and Leonel Miranda, the other two goalscorers for Houston, joined Davis in the midfield.
Rounding out the Houston haul were defenders DaMarcus Beasley and David Horst, along with goalkeeper Tyler Deric. Combined, the Dynamo standouts were good for 94 points.
Houston didn’t have this week’s top point-getter, though. That honor went (once again) to Didier Drogba, who scored three goals in 180 minutes last week, totaling 18 points. Cyle Larin was right behind him with a hat trick at New York, good for 17 points.
This week, the Dynamo take on FC Dallas in the Texas Derby. Dallas are coming off consecutive disappointing results, though it’s certainly worth taking a look at what Houston’s bringing to the table.
Captain Falcon FC, taking a break from F-Zero racing, made the smart move to captain Drogba, making up the bulk of a 126-point performance. Having Davis and Lee Nguyen in the midfield didn’t hurt, either.
Round 31 doesn’t kick off until next month, with the transfer deadline on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
The round after is the weekend of the USA-Mexico CONCACAF Cup playoff, with just about every MLS team on a bye. It’s also the first of two straight universal transfer rounds, so there’s no reason to think about anything but this round when picking your team.
After two weeks with midweek games and squad rotations, here’s the important stuff to consider:
Philadelphia and Sporting KC play in the US Open Cup Final on Wednesday. Both teams rested a number of starters in Round 30.

Here are the players I’m considering going into the next week:
Didier Drogba
, Montreal Impact – Forward ($10.6) –
It almost feels silly writing this; it’s not like I discovered Drogba, after all. Still, his price tag is relatively low and every sign says he’s going to score something like a million goals this year. If you’re not among the one in 10 fantasy managers rostering Drogba, don’t wait until next round to bring him on.
Tyler Deric, Houston Dynamo – Goalkeeper ($5.1) – I’m betting on Houston in the upcoming Derby, and even if Deric doesn’t get the shutout, he does get the bonuses. (Really hoping he gets the shutout, though.)
Jack Jewsbury, Portland Timbers – Defender ($6.1) – Picking based on matchup has been difficult lately, with MLS parity ruling the day. Sporting KC know this matchup with Portland is crucial, but with the Timbers having all week to focus, Jewsbury's side should be able to pull it off.
