LA's MLS expansion team announces official club name: Los Angeles Football Club

We are LAFC 620x350

The newest MLS expansion club in Los Angeles officially has a name.

It was announced on Tuesday that the new LA club set to debut in 2018 will be known as the Los Angeles Football Club, or LAFC for short. According to a release issued by the club, the name was chosen after months of engagement with supporters, partners, stakeholders and founding season ticket members.

“The name that we chose is true to Los Angeles, authentic to world football and speaks to our global ambitions,” club managing partner and owner Henry Nguyen said in the statement.

LAFC are also giving their supporters a voice in determining the club’s colors through a social media campaign that runs through Friday. Featured on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, the club will use the feedback in combination with an evaluation of the MLS landscape to finalize their decision. LAFC, which earlier this year announced plans to build a 22,000-seat soccer stadium in downtown Los Angeles, expect to unveil their official colors and crest in the coming months.

“We promise to give our supporters an opportunity to have a significant voice as we build and co-create this club together,” LAFC president and owner Tom Penn said in the club’s statement.
