Bobby Wood has become an American hero in the span of less than a week.
In that time he has scored game-winners against European giants Netherlands and the reigning World Cup champs Germany. Here's what you need to know about the USMNT's newest goal-scoring hero.
He's from Hawaii
Wood grew up in Hawaii, where he lived until the age of 12. From there he moved to Irvine, California and played for the Irvine Strikers club team before moving to Germany just two years after that.
He has been with German club 1860 Munich for a while now
The now 22-year-old joined the academy of German side 1860 Munich at the age of 14. It wasn't easy for Wood, but he eventually made his debut with the club's senior team in January 2011 at the age of 18.
He has struggled to find consistency last four years
Since making his professional debut with 1860 Munich, Wood has made 54 appearances on the senior level, scoring just six goals in all competitions for the club.
His club struggles, which include dealing with a couple of knee injuries, eventually resulted in a much-needed loan move to another second-tier club, Erzgebirge Aue, which was recently relegated to the third division.
What happened at 1860 Munich? You can listen to Wood tell the story himself during an in-depth interview with ExtraTime Radioback in January.
He's just hoping to settle down
After scoring three goals in nine appearances for Erzgebirge Aue, Wood is set to return to 1860 Munich after his loan deal officially expires on July 1.
He's hoping to clear up his club future in the coming weeks (his contract with 1860 Munich runs through June 2016) although rumors already have second-division Kaiserslautern interested in his services.
US national team career
Wood has been a member of the US Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 national teams. He made his debut for the senior team in August 2013 against Bosnia-Herzegovina and earned his first USMNT start in January 2015 against Chile.
Wood's first goals for the USA came this week with two game-winners against the Netherlands and Germany (watch both below). He has a total of 10 appearances, all under manager Jurgen Klinsmann.
