The New York Red Bulls signed their ninth Homegrown player in franchise history on Thursday, adding Duke star and reigning ACC Midfielder of the Year Sean Davis to the club.
Davis, 21, hails form Holmdel, New Jersey, and becomes the fourth Homegrown player on the Red Bulls’ current roster, joining Santiago Castano, Connor Lade and Matt Miazga.
"We are delighted to announce the signing of Sean Davis, who is one of the best young players to emerge from the college ranks this year," New York Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh said in a statement. "Sean is a gifted midfield player, a star of our U-23 championship winning team, a homegrown talent, and someone with the potential to be a top player for the New York Red Bulls in the future."
Davis earned All-ACC First Team accolades this year after he was named Duke's offensive MVP after the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He was also a part of the Red Bulls U-23 team that captured the NPSL Championship at Red Bull Arena in August.
He spent the 2009-10 and 10-11 seasons with the Red Bulls U-18s after two years with the U.S. Soccer residency program.
