Major League Soccer was well represented as USL PRO announced its 2014 All-League teams on Tuesday, honoring the league's top 22 players of the season.
Unsurprisingly, LA Galaxy II led the way, as striker and 2012 SuperDraft first-rounder Chandler Hoffman was named to the USL PRO All-League First Team, while defender Daniel Steres and midfielder Andre Auras made the Second Team. Galaxy II are the first MLS squad to take part in full USL PRO competition, and “Los Dos” qualified for the third-tier professional league's playoffs, where they fell 3-2 to the Sacramento Republic in the semifinals last Saturday.
2015 MLS expansion side Orlando City were USL PRO's regular-season champions this year, and striker Kevin Molino – who has already been signed for the Lions' inaugural campaign in MLS – was honored for his sterling performances with a spot alongside Hoffman in the All-League First Team. Molino was USL PRO's runaway scoring leader with 20 goals and nine assists, both league bests. His Lions teammate Luke Boden also made the First Team and remains in contract negotiations with the club regarding his potential inclusion in next year's squad.
D.C. United goalkeeper Joe Willis made the All-League Second Team for his efforts on loan with the Richmond Kickers, while Columbus Crew striker Aaron Schoenfeld was similarly honored for his stint with Dayton Dutch Lions. Schoenfeld notched a team-leading 12 goals and one assist in 1,411 minutes in Dayton.
USL PRO will announce the finalists for Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player on Wednesday, with the awards to be presented at the USL PRO Championship news conference on Friday in Sacramento.
The 2014 USL PRO Championship Game will see the Republic host the No. 8 seed Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday night (10:30 pm ET, streamed online via USL PRO's YouTube channel).
