The Chicago Fire added significant experience to their midfield on Monday, announcing the acquisition of Romanian international Razvan Cocis from Ukrainian club Hozerla Uzhhorod.
A veteran of Eastern European leagues, Cocis appeared in all three games for Romania at Euro 2008, starting twice, and has played in qualifying campaigns for the last three World Cups, including Romania's 4-2 aggregate loss to Greece in a qualifying playoff last November. He has scored twice and registered six assists in 50 career appearances for Romania.
Having come up through the Universitatea Cluj academy in Romania, Cocis played for Universitatea Cluj, Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova and Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia. He has played for several clubs in Romania, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and Russia before scoring three goals in 19 games for Hoverla (located in western Ukraine, near the Slovakian border) in 2013-14.
The 31-year-old has been approved for a P-1 work visa and has been added to the Fire roster.
